The pig sector provides jobs for many Spaniards

According to a report by Analistas Financieros Internacionales (AFI), the pig sector contributes to generating or maintaining 2.3% of jobs in Spain with 154,000 direct jobs, to which are added another 172,700 indirect jobs and 99,500 induced jobs.

At world level, Spain is the fourth largest producer (after China, the USA and Germany), while at European level, Spain is the second largest producer with 19% of the tonnes produced, behind Germany.

This increase in production has increased the already high rate of self-sufficiency, which makes exports an essential element for market balance. With a very positive trade balance, Spain has consolidated its position, spectacularly increasing exports to third countries, especially to China and other Southeast Asian countries.
