The recent detection of cases of <\/span>African swine fever (ASF)<\/b> in wildlife in Catalonia has once again put the entire pig sector on alert. <\/span>In PORINOX we follow this situation with concern and closeness, because we have been working for many years hand in hand with farmers, integrators and veterinarians. <\/span>We are well aware of what a threat of this level implies for a farm: uncertainty, operational pressure and a fragile economic context.<\/span><\/h4>\n

1. A reality shared by the whole sector<\/b><\/h3>\n
For those of you who work on pig farms, biosecurity<\/span> no<\/strong> is a theoretical concept. <\/strong>It is a daily responsibility and, at times like these, an additional burden that is felt in every decision.<\/span><\/h5>\n
We know that the current situation can generate:<\/span><\/h5>\n

  • \n
    Uncertainty about the evolution of outbreaks.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Tension in the management of personnel and access.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Concern for the economic stability of the farm.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n
  • \n
    Logistical complications related to movements and supplies.<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    2. Biosecurity measures that need to be strengthened<\/b><\/h3>\n
    Although many of these practices are now commonplace, it is advisable to review them thoroughly when health pressures increase:<\/span><\/h5>\n

    Limit entries, reinforce hygiene steps and ensure that all staff follow protocol.<\/span><\/h5>\n
    \u2714\ufe0f Cleaning and disinfection of vehicles and materials<\/b><\/h5>\n
    Indirect transmission remains one of the most frequent routes.<\/span><\/h5>\n
    \u2714\ufe0f Clear internal management and quarantines<\/b><\/h5>\n
    Separate new or at-risk animals, and maintain well-defined circuits within the farm.<\/span><\/h5>\n
    \u2714\ufe0f Wildlife protection<\/b><\/h5>\n
    Fencing, perimeter mesh, and keeping the environment clean and free of organic debris.<\/span><\/h5>\n
    \u2714\ufe0f Ventilation and environmental control<\/b><\/h5>\n
    A stable environment with controlled humidity and gases reduces stress and health vulnerability of livestock.<\/span><\/h5>\n

    Farms that apply these protocols consistently tend to be those which better withstand risk scenarios.<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

    3. Facilities as support in times of risk<\/b><\/h3>\n
    The condition of the facilities - chimneys, extractions, doors, enclosures, passageways - has a direct influence on biosecurity. <\/span>It is not a question of making hasty changes, but rather of checking whether there are <\/span>Weaknesses<\/b> which should be reinforced or maintained:<\/span><\/h5>\n

      Accesses that do not close properly.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n

      Equipment requiring maintenance.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n

      Areas open to the outside environment.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n

      Ageing installations that no longer guarantee the same protection.<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      A environment<\/strong> physical stable<\/strong> helps a lot to contain health pressures.<\/span><\/h5>\n

      4. A message of responsibility<\/b><\/h3>\n
      We know that this is a sensitive time for the whole sector.<\/span>
      \n<\/span> Any outbreak, even in wildlife, generates real concern for farmers, workers and entire families.<\/span><\/h5>\n
      For this reason, and with full respect for the situation, we would like to mention that <\/span>in areas likely to be more exposed or under greater controls<\/b>,<\/span>we are prioritising faster delivery times<\/b> in products related to biosecurity and enclosure.\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n
      ASF is a challenge for all of us in the pig industry. <\/span>The response is to remain calm, reinforce biosecurity and work in a coordinated manner.<\/span><\/h5>\n
      From PORINOX we will continue acting with the seriousness and respect that the situation deserves, and supporting as much as possible those who are in the front line.
